Day Respite Services

Daytime group respite care for senior community members aged 65 years or over.

What we do

This service is available for members of the Corner Inlet community aged 65 years and over and provides group respite services on a regular basis. The service is run by a team of Enrolled Nurses and is located in a welcoming, homely setting. Clients participate in a range of interesting activities designed to suit their individual needs, with all meals provided as part of the service.

Each client has access to a fully furnished private room with an ensuite. To assist with ongoing health needs, clients can also access other SGH health professionals within the facility.

The service operates Monday to Friday between 9.00 am and 3.00 pm.

Who can use our service?

Anyone aged over 65 years, or over 50 if Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander assessed as eligible for this program can attend.

Eligibility criteria includes having an adequate level of mobility with or without aids, not requiring a secure facility and being able to manage most personal care needs.

Family or self-referrals are welcome, or clients may be referred by their GP or other health professional. Referrals can be made via:

Once your referral is received, our friendly Intake team will make contact by phone to complete an initial assessment of your needs and offer you a selection of days from which you can choose to attend the service.

Where is it held?

The service is provided onsite at the South Gippsland Hospital Banksia Centre.

Are there any fees?

A client co-contribution amount is charged according to your ability to pay, with only a small fee charged for pensioners and health care card holders.

Visitors are welcome to visit participants while they are using the day respite service.

Potential participants and their family/carers are also welcome to come and have a look at the respite centre when deciding if the service is for them.
