Acute Medical Care
What we do
South Gippsland Hospital (SGH) has a 16-bed acute mixed ward. This ward provides mostly acute medical care and sometimes overnight surgical care to patients admitted to SGH. The admitting medical officers are the General Practitioners (GPs) from the Foster Medical Centre.
In addition to nursing care the acute ward provides care from allied health professionals such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
How you access
Admission to South Gippsland Hospital is arranged by your GP, the GP on call at SGH or via inter-hospital transfer from another healthcare facility.
Who can use our service?
Any patient assessed by an admitting doctor as requiring inpatient care on our acute ward that can be provided within the capability of SGH.
Are there any fees
SGH is a public hospital so there are no out-of-pocket expenses if you have a Medicare card.
Private patients may choose to use their private health insurance with no out-of-pocket expense.

What to bring
Medicare card, a list of your currently prescribed medications, the medications you usually take and any personal items you might require during your stay.
