Urgent Care Clinic costs
The hospital does have the capacity to provide Urgent Care out of hours and does so with the assistance of nursing staff on duty at all hours and doctors on call from Foster Medical Centre. However, there is no publicly funded after hours medical service at South Gippsland Hospital, therefore, consultations will be at a cost to the patient to cover services provided by the doctor on call. Charges will also be made should you require X-rays, pathology tests and transport.
Medicare Ineligible Patients
South Gippsland Hospital is a public health care facility. All patients who use this facility must be eligible for Medicare benefits. Any patients who are not eligible for Medicare benefits will need to pay the Finance Department for the cost of all their medical care and services.
A Medicare ineligible person is any visitor to Australia who does not hold a valid Medicare card, or is not included under one of the classifications below:
- Reciprocal Rights
- Asylum Seekers and Refugees
If you are an overseas visitor from a country which Australia does not have a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement with, you will be treated as a Medicare Ineligible Patient. This means you will have to pay for all medical care and treatment.
